Marielle Schram is a Dutch artist living and working in England.

Her style of painting is very distinctive, quietness being the main characteristic. She has enjoyed growing success with an increasing number of individuals collecting her art. She works mainly in oils on canvas. The canvas is prepared with the natural, unbleached, colour preserved. She often says “for me, preparing the canvas is part of the painting process, I like to get a feel for the size and often I am already thinking about the painting to be”. That way the chosen, natural object and the artist’s materials blend beautifully and naturally to create the oasis of calm, which has become the defining characteristic of her paintings.

The most important thing for her is to be able to convey emotions which are not easily expressed, but are common human emotions. “I use a leaf or a berry as a means of expressing something deeper. I try to go beyond the obvious; I would like to appeal to the emotion, recognizable for all of us. Painting is about making the invisible visible. Feeling is like seeing.”

Most paintings are very evocative images and at the same time very quiet, leaving room for contemplation. Some of the comments in the visitor book are testament of this:

"Very subtle, delicate and contemplative, I really enjoyed seeing your work."
"Unusual and beautiful. Thoughtful approach.”
"Very calm and peaceful.”
"Strong palette with sensitive result. Atmospheric place.”
"Very beautiful, serene yet powerful.”

Marielle exhibits her paintings in galleries throughout the UK, as well as at art fairs in the UK and abroad. Her studio is a beautiful open space in woodland surroundings, the perfect setting for her work. You are welcome to visit the studio, but please note that studio visits are by appointment only.

Prices for Marielle's oil paintings range from just £300 up to about £3,500.
